Birdwatcher's Delight

The Cape of Good Hope and surrounding Environs, within 100 kilometres of Cape Town City Centre, offers five main bird habitats with more than 200 species identified. The Tour Itinerary will be determined on the time of the year and the particular species that you would like the chance of seeing. Two of the main regions visited are the Cape Coastal Fynbos and Cape Flats Wetlands.

The Tour starts in Cape Town, heading out into the Southern Suburbs. The first stop is the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, where you get the opportunity to enjoy both the beauty of the Garden and the extensive Birdlife that it attracts. From here, you head for the Rondevlei Bird Sanctuary and Nature Reserve, home to 40 to 70 typical Wetland Bird Species, elusive mammals such as small antelope, the huge hippo and even the rare cape clawless otter, amongst others.

This wetland Reserve boasts a fascinating selection of static Bird Displays, a freshwater Aquarium, a comfortable walk and some excellent Bird hides and observation towers. Following an optional lunch en-route, you head for the Koeberg Power Station Nature Reserve. This amazing little Nature Reserve, though lying in the lee of a Nuclear Power Station is host to a huge variety of Birdlife, ranging from weavers, raptors and a variety of sea birds.

To fully enjoy the Birdlife in this Reserve, you will need to be prepared to hike a 4 kilometre Trail, which takes you through Coastal Wetland, Fynbos and other unique Eco-Systems.
